Neonate Mammal Care
This course begins with an exploration of the evolution of assisted neonatal mammal rearing with experience learned from in excess of 10,000 neonatal mammals reared at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Birth Management Planning, the initial assessment, neonatal immunity, and how to develop a Feeding Plan, complete with the formulas necessary for determining target percent body weight, gastric capacity and total daily volume of formula to feed are included. The goal of this course is to explore the importance of neonatal assisted care and the role it plays in protecting species in managed care and the struggle to save species from extinction. Every individual that is raised successfully is another animal helping us achieve our mutual goal of creating sustainable populations.
